Speaking of coffee, there is a Winter Roast Coffee Festival at the Chattanooga Market. For a $5 donation you can sample ten coffees from five local roasters. Proceeds benefit the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. The market runs all weekend long, extended for holiday shopping, starting today at 4:00 PM. The coffee roast is on Sunday, December 10th, beginning at twelve noon.
A good cup of coffee deserves a good mug to put it in. Tomorrow there will be a kiln opening and art sale at Mark Issenberg’s Rising Fawn studio. I have several of his pieces already and they are both beautiful and functional. My favorite mug reminds me of something out of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. I hope that I can make it to the event and get first crack at the pots coming out of the kiln (no pun intended). For directions see Lookout Mountain Pottery.
UPDATED – We went to the kiln opening this morning. I accidentally drove to Rising Fawn pottery (Issenberg’s mentor?) first, so if you plan to attend the Sunday (12/10) open house make sure you go to the right place. There were also several other visiting artists (potters, jewelers, a photographer, etc.).
It was really fun to watch Mark open the kiln and unload the pottery. Here was a man who was working with his livilihood and his passion. You could see the pleasure on his face and hear it in his voice when a pot turned out exceptionally well. We ended up buying two pieces (one gift and one for me).
Below are some photos that I took this evening of our Mark Issenberg pottery. Click on a thumbnail to enlarge it.
Note: I installed Lightbox JS this evening. You will not have to leave the site in order to view the enlargements. Click on the Next or Prev side of the photo, or hit the “N” and “P” keys respectively. Click on the “Close X” to exit.

I think the coffee part is just on Sunday, but it would be nice if it was all weekend (their site isn’t very clear). I plan on heading over there tomorrow to check things out and then Sunday going back to get coffee and possibly pick up some gifts.
You’re right. Looking in the newspaper the “If You Go” section makes it sound like both the holiday market and the coffee roast are all three days. However, reading the article text it says “end its season on Sunday with the Winter Roast Coffee…” Still, I agree it’s not clear.
I’ll skip church on Sunday just in case so that I can get there early.
Okay?!? I won’t see you there till at least 1:00.
My sister’s been interning with Mark and has her stuff in a couple shows around town (including Mark’s) so keep and eye out and buy her stuff. Her name’s Danielle Forman – soon to be Danielle Fox. She’s picked up a lot of technique from Mark, so if you like his stuff, hers is similar.
Rebekah, I think I know exactly who your sister is…maybe have even seen her at Greyfriar’s before. I see the resemblence now. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for her work.
On a side note, I enjoyed paying Mark’s prices versus gallery prices. There was a woman there who I think was buying for a shop.
