Home from the Hospital

Pamela and Ethan were discharged from the hospital early this afternoon. This morning the little guy not only got poked and prodded as the final state mandated tests were conducted, but he was also circumsized. The on-call obstetrician stopped in to do the procedure while on his way to church. It appears, thankfully, that it was not a rush job! That all happened early while I was out getting coffee. The next hurdle was the pediatrician’s sign-off. Ethan was looking a little jaundiced, so they had to do a bilirubin test. The count is not too bad, but they will check it again tomorrow when he sees his regular pediatrician.

After a late lunch Doug, Bobby and Laura headed back to Biloxi. Lois is staying for the week, so Pamela rested some while I ran a couple errands. While driving down Gunbarrel Road I realized that I should have stayed home. I am sure that the clerk at Wal-Mart thought I was on something, but it was just the sleep deprivation. And so here it is a little after 9:30 PM and I have decided to go to bed. Ethan and I were going to watch the World Series and post pictures to the web (he is laying on my lap), but I think I need to get some sleep while I can. The two other pictures I posted will have to do for one more night: a very soon after birth photo on my personal blog and a photoblog shot of Ethan resting in the hospital nursery a short time later.

Okay, you can totally blame sleep deprivation, but it still must be pointed out because of the intense case of the giggles that it caused me. The word is “bilirubin”. But “bellyrubin” is way funnier. Like, sometimes my boys like to give each other a good ole fashioned Belly-rubbin’.

LOL, I thought the same thing! You were faster posting than I was, though. ;-)

Was Pam able to have a natural delivery or did she have
to have a C-Section? Best wishes to all of you!

Thankfully Willa corrected the spelling thing…gets me off the hook on this one! I like the bellyrubin spelling better too. BTW, now that you have an A, I and E.. are the next two going to be O & U? How about Olivia and Urban? As long as it took you guys to settle on Ethan, you had better start now…..

Did I mention that I had a reuben in my belly? ;)

Brenda: No C-section…after being stuck at 6cm for a while she went the last 4cm in an hour. What an answer to prayer!

Congratulations! He’s a very handsome little guy. Our little ones are anxiously awaiting a chance to see him, but until the coughs are gone, we’ll keep our distance.

Karen: I can’t wait to take him out and show him off, but whether or not he’s at church on Sunday will probably depend more on how Pam is feeling. There seem to be differing opinions on taking newborns out and about, but I think that a short Sunday trip is no worse than going to see the doctor for a check-up. Hopefully, we’ll all be there!

You are probably right about the trip to church being no worse than a doctor’s visit..except at the doctor’s office you don’t usually everybody in there sticking their face and fingers in the new baby’s face. If you take the baby to church, remember everyone will want a piece of the action..just say no…….also, new babies get very sore joints and muscles from being handed back and forth…hence another reason for swaddling (besides warmth).

Oh, of course. We have lots of practice saying “look but don’t touch.” :) It will really boil down to how Pam is doing.
