We have been busy…
For Labor Day weekend (through Sunday) I was out of town with my college hallmates. We went fly-fishing in northern New Mexico. Pamela’s parents came to visit, so thankfully she was not pregnant and alone with the kids.
The border between New Mexico and Colorado has the most varied scenery that I have encountered in my travels across America. One minute you are in a scrub-brush desert and then twenty minutes later you are climbing through mountains covered with aspen and spruce trees. As for the trout fishing, it was incredible. It was also my first time. As one noted fisherman said, fly-fishing is “a singularly compelling way to enjoy the outdoors.” Now that I officially have the fly-fishing bug, I wonder why I did not catch it sooner?
Aidan had his second soccer practice this past Saturday. He went right out there on the field and did not shy away at all. After practice was over, he continued to play one-on-one soccer with his friend, Banks. His coach noted that Aidan has natural defending skills. I am glad to hear this, because it means he is less likely to end up with the daisy pickers when they split into groups later on.
On Monday we all went to IKEA in Atlanta. It was my first visit. Frankly, I was more impressed with the Swedish meatballs than I was with the furniture. Sure, it is all great design, but the quality on many of the pieces is not as good as I expected. However, it must be noted that thousands of people go through that store each day and beat on the displays. All this said, we still plan on buying some pieces.
September begins one birthday after another in the Kennedy household. Mine comes first. Pamela’s is ten days later in October. A week later is Aidan’s birthday. It is highly likely that Kiki’s birthday could come before these are past, especially when you consider that 35 1/2 weeks (re: Aidan) is September 29th!
Speaking of birthdays, I made some updates to my Amazon Wish List last night.
Starting this week Pamela goes to the doctor twice a week. On Tuesdays she sees her regular OB; on Fridays she sees her high risk specialist. In the meantime we are trying to straighten out yet another misfiled insurance claim.
This coming Saturday is our last “free” day for a while, a day in which we have no other prior commitments. We may or may not buy a mini-van this weekend, but we are definitely going to look a lot more seriously than before. Downpayment donations can be made to my PayPal account: scott_kennedy AT comcast DOT net (j/k…but I won’t turn down $).
I think that Pamela and I are closing in on a name for Kiki. We have narrowed it down to three combinations, but I am still looking for the elusive one that both of us just cannot resist. Also, we may abandon the first-letter-vowel-requirement for the first name. If you want to get your suggestions and other guesses into the mix, there is still time left for the Baby Name Contest.
Today marks my twelve year anniversary with my employer. Work has been going well lately, but I found out last week that our department is going through a huge reorganization. The purpose is not to cut costs, but rather to prepare for growth and better meet our company’s training needs. Therefore, my “job” is not in jeopardy. However, my “role” may change over the next six months. Whether I enjoy it more or less than what I am currently doing remains to be seen.

Thought about getting you the Tissot but it seemed a bit cheap… when is your actual birthday?
Yeah, I hadn’t thought of that. What, with you rubbing shoulders the other week with the Hollywood elite! I suppose I should put the L series Canon lenses back on the list, then? Maybe you could have it gold plated or encrusted with diamonds?
They’re all as follows…
9/26 – yo
10/6 – mi esposa
10/13 – mi hijo
2/27 – mi hija
Encrusted… never thought of that. Better yet, I’ll comission Jim at Clock Works to make a custom Uglyhead watch. The cool thing to me is that he actually could do it.
I always wondered how he stayed in business. Should have known that it was because of the internet!
Jim actually has a very good repair, maintanance and educational business. Retail is only a portion of their business model. He’s only one of a few folks nationally who are qualified to do and teach certain aspects of clock and watch repair. As far as retail is concerned, we helped him publish one of the largest online collections of Howard Miller clocks – so hopefully the retail side will become more prevelant.
jim rocks, in many ways.
I’ve got an old clunker of a fly rod and reel that you can borrow indefinitely if you need something to learn on. learn to cast well with “the black beast” and you’ll be an expert. if/when you upgrade, you’ll be a fine caster indeed. it’s overkill for trout, but good for bass, panfish, etc.
and if you make an ikea run, we may want to place an order and help pay for gas.
so Pam wasn’t pregnant for the weekend??? how does that work exactly?
Bob: Thanks, I may take you up on the offer sometime. The reel I have has seen better days. Clunkers are okay as long as they work, but this reel of mine has a really tight drag. I may try taking it apart and servicing it, but instead I might just stick it on my grandpa’s bamboo rod and hang it on the wall.
Mandi: You didn’t grow up in central PA, so you’re not familiar with the Amish influences on the language (e.g., “throw papa down the stairs his hat”). That’s okay, I’ll forgive you.
I *suppose* that “not alone and pregnant” would be a little more clear to your southern ears.
