Baby Name Update

There has been a limited response to our baby name contest that I announced a couple months ago. I suppose that offering some sort of prize would help. I have decided that the grand prize will be a pet Burmese python (approximately six feet long when the contest concludes). The nice folks on the python forum think it is just beautiful. I will even throw in a bag of frozen rats. Enter here or click on the link in the sidebar navigation.

Below are the three entries we have received. Only one of them appears to be serious.

  • First Name = Elijah (Heb; Jehovah is God); Middle Name = Guinness (Gaelic; descendant of the healer); Birth Date = October 31; Time of Delivery = 6:46 pm; Weight (lbs/oz) = 6 lbs 9 oz; Length (in) = 21 in; Hair Color = Brown; Eye Color = Blue; Looks Like = Both.; Comments = I like “Kiki”.
  • First Name = Brunhildo; Middle Name = Abermathy; Birth Date = Somtime after you read this.; Time of Delivery = Time is relitive; Weight (lbs/oz) = Depends on Gravity that particular day; Length (in) = Relative to what time he is measured.. always growing ya know.; Hair Color = None; Eye Color = Brown; Looks Like = Father; Comments = Hair and eye color are also relitive to what wavelengths of light which are being reflected off the hair at the time it is observed. Overall a prediction is a impossibility until it is determined what physical perameters are in effect at the time of birth.. Is that vague or what?.. do i win?
  • First Name = Hayao; Middle Name = Miyazaki; Birth Date = 11/17/2006; Time of Delivery = 02:11 AM; Weight (lbs/oz) = 8; Length (in) = 7; Hair Color = Black; Eye Color = Brown; Looks Like = Father

I should also mention that Pamela and I are about as close to agreeing on a name as the East is from the West. It just might come down to the wire. If that happens, then my fear is that the nickname “Kiki” is going to somehow stick.

I’m gonna bite, well, nibble….I am not going to go all over the place guessing the due date, etc. but I am going to suggest a name (at least a starting point for one). How about Lachlan Douglas? (Or spell it Lochlan or some other way)That way you have the Gaelic thing going on…with both names, but then Douglas has the double bonus of having a family connection…and it all sounds good with Kennedy…Just a thought….I think this baby is going to look like the other two….Reddish brown hair, etc.

We have another entry, this time from Aunt Mary. I’ll only share the name part, as that’s the direction of the post.

First Name = Kevin; Middle Name = Daniel; Comments = If he’s a Kevin or Keith you can keep the “Kiki” knick Kname. I would like to win but you can keep the snake!”

Of course, as I’m sure Aunt Mary and you all are aware, the snake as a prize is just a joke. But, anyone who is able to care for Monty can have her for free without entering the contest. :)

Debbie: Douglas is already Aidan’s middle name. Pamela would like to use my dad’s first name, Richard, as the middle name. However, as much as I’d like to honor my dad, I’m not as keen on it as Pamela. Maybe it’s because Richard is also my middle name…that and the fact that the nickname is, uh…Dick.

I do like Celtic/Gaelic/Old English names, even though Isabel Marie is not (Spanish/Portugese and French?). What we have been considering is going with a vowel first name and letting that be the pattern (Aidan, Isabel and E…,O…,U…).

I’m telling you, I went to school with a kid named Keith that we all called “key key” until about 3rd grade. Sometimes it still comes out today, though I’m sure he’d rather forget those days.

Okay, I’m not sure the initial vowel is a pattern worth investing in. It just totally proves to me that you have OCD!! LOL

You two have probably already covered this territory, but here are a few ideas. I don’t have time to formally enter the name/win-the-snake contest, so this is my only contribution.

Ethan, Elias, Ian, Iain, Owen, Elliott

There are a few other names that I thought of, but they sounded so much like Aidan.

    Happy debating.

Virginia: Sorry, I went to school with a kid named Keith, too. And he…you know where this story is going.

Debbie: It takes one to know one!

Karen: Thanks, I do like all of those and they’ve been on one list or another.

What do y’all think of Ulysses? Just kidding…

Ethan is pulling for a namesake. He wants Kiki to be his “Mini-Me”.
