Scoping Out Blue Ridge

I am over here in Blue Ridge, Georgia for tonight and tomorrow. Our friends who live here are on their way to Canada for a missions trip and graciously allowed us to have access to their cabin. They have a really nice place. I also love Blue Ridge. I have come here a couple times with some college buddies, and once Pamela and I rented a cabin. Unfortunately, it is has become a weekend getaway for many Atlantians. I hope it does not over-develop. If I could only talk Pamela into moving here. We could get in on the ground level before property values skyrocket. I could easily telecommute for my job and have the benefit of the great outdoors after hours. Next weekend I am bringing Pamela and the kids here for the weekend. That should be just enough time to sell her on the idea. We could so make new friends…j/k!

I arrived at the cabin somewhere between five and six o’clock. After unloading the car I soon made my way down to the Toccoa River. Fishing is one of the many outdoor activities that you can enjoy here. Blue Ridge Lake is close by, where you can go for warm water fish. There are also ample trout streams that feed the lake. This evening I managed to snag three dinner sized trout, but unfortunately each one of them only stayed hooked for a few seconds. I am so used to fishing for bass, so perhaps I am just not waiting long enough to set the hook for these trout? I ended up eating Chef-Boy-Ardee for dinner.

Hopefully, in the morning I will wake up early enough to catch lunch. I want to try another spot called Cooper Creek, which I heard about from Floyd and Shane. I met them down at the Shallow Ford Bridge. Both father and son have been coming here to camp and fish for over twenty years. Floyd said that Cooper’s might be a better place to take the kids next weekend. If not, then I will just do some catch and release down the road and then hop on my bike in the afternoon. The Aska Trails are not far from here. I will definitely be in mountain biking nirvana. After I clean up from the ride, I will probably lounge in the hammock and then take in some dinner at one of the local restaurants. I hear that they serve the best freshwater trout.
