Aidan’s Reward

Specialized Hotrock

For finding Pamela’s wedding set, Aidan’s big surprise today was a 2006 Specialized 16″ Hotrock. We had been planning on getting him a bike either for his birthday or Christmas. Unfortunately, Aidan’s tricycle was accidentally backed over by the Subaru recently. All it took was the reward promise to decide that now was the time.

We will start out riding in the driveway and then move on down the road to the Baptist church parking lot. It will be a while before Aidan can tackle the hills that make up most of our subdivision. Also, the whole time we were at the bike shop Isabel kept climbing on a pink 12″ girls’ bike and telling the clerk that she wanted it. Maybe she will skip the tricycle?

Most of my kids skipped the tricycle. It is actually an entirely different movement of the ankle and so forth than a bike, and a couple of my kids never could master the trike. Noah got a bike for his birthday this weekend, too, which means Joseph has started to ride his bike some. Maybe we’ll have to get them together somewhere and let them ride at a park or something.

That would be a lot of fun. If I can get the trike fixed I might see if Izzy will start riding it (just need to locate a rear axle).

I’m sure someday soon D will blog about this latest creation, but he made Fuller a wooden coaster bike that we gave Fuller at Easter. (Similar to a like-a-bike.) Maybe Isabell would like something similar (with a smaller price tag).

That like-a-bike is pretty cool! Can’t wait to see photos of Damon’s knock-off.

Here’s a picture of D’s version. It has an adjustable seat.
