Aidan has begun to pick up an accent. I am not talking about anything genteel. No, this one is pure “kuntry.” We started noticing it on words like “there,” “done” and “daddy.” Today he used a southern drawl accent all day long. He is not getting it from us, so where he is picking it up? Pre-school? Television? Casual encounters? We need to move up north.

He probably hasn’t picked it up from anywhere particular. He’s just blessed to be growing up in the South
Yikes! We dont have drawls in Syracuse and its a great place to live if you dont mind the snow. Lots of snow! We may have frost next week. Remember April in Syracuse?
Oh, do I remember Syracuse and that April ice storm! Brr!!!
It’s all in the drawl y’all
As if sounding like a Southerner is a bad thing!!!
It’s not bad to sound like a Southerner…as in having a Southern accent. Heck, I think that “fixin’ to” is one of the best slang phrases of all time. What I’m talking about is the /draw’ -el/. You know, when one syllable words become two, or two syllable words become three. The other aspect of it is greatly elongating the accent syllable.
