I just got off the horn with my friend who is watching stage three of the Tour de Georgia with me on Thursday. They will be closing down the roads a couple hours before the race, so early Thursday morning we plan to drive one of our cars to a spot on the race course and leave it there. It will be fully loaded with clothes, lawn chairs, food and drinks.
After dropping off the car we will head back down the mountain on our bikes and ride the valley, climbing back up Lookout on the Ruby Falls side and then descending back to the cars about an hour before the first rider leaves the start gate.
Below is an elevation map of the race course.

We plan to watch the race unfold near the top of Nick-a-Jack Rd. After a steep and steady climb the road levels off slightly. Then at a switchback the grade jumps to 18%. This is the place to be. It should give us a pretty good view of the riders approaching, as well as an opportunity to run along side the riders and hoot ‘n holler. Since it will be the slowest part of the course, I will hopefully get some good photos with my DSLR.

Prepare for the fun!!! I went today to the finish line in downtown Rome. Good stuff. They rode through four times.
It was a lot of fun! ITT’s are cool because the starts are all staggered 1-2 minutes apart.
