A few weeks ago I let Aidan borrow my stainless steel Swiss Army watch so that he could time his dinner bites as they cooled down. I forgot about it until about a half hour later when I heard a loud clunk. My watch had been dropped to the tile kitchen floor. Being of solid construction, the timepiece appeared to be no worse for wear. However, the next day I noticed that the hands were stuck at 11:44. I figured that the battery had died, but to my delight it started back up as soon as I reset the time (and did not lag behind).
The next day the same thing happened. It stopped at 11:44. Again, I reset the time and everything seemed normal. It has not stopped since then, but this evening I noticed that the date had switched too soon to the next day (it read ‘31′). As I tried to correct it I noticed that the date was not changing at 12:00 PM. Instead, it changes at random times (e.g., at 7:53 PM). Also, when I line up the big hand the little hand, instead of them overlapping and both being pointed at 12:00, they sit at 11:59.
Either my watch is possessed, or that drop from a few weeks ago has done some damage to the precision Swiss movement. I guess I will have to wear my geeky digital until it can be repaired (along with my Skagen that needs sent off due to a cracked crystal). With most people carrying cell phones everywhere, does anyone still wear a watch these days? If so, do you prefer analog or digital; fashion or function?

go see Jim Pettit in St. Elmo at Clockworks. he’ll fix you up.
I think you should break out that cool PDA watch you got about 4 years ago! hee hee hee
Bob: Good suggestion. I don’t know if it’s under warranty or not. I’ve had it for several years. I’ll need to find my paperwork to see if it is worth sending in or just taking it to a local repair shop.
Matt: That thing was a brick! They have since come out with a smaller one–it even includes a mini-stylus–but it is still too big and a little too geeky (even for me).
I want to believe it is possessed. . .or that there is some wonderful symbolism to it all. . .Ooh, remember Vaughn’s watch??
Maybe KiKi will be born at 11:44. . .
Analog .. fashion/durability, something that’s classic
