It is three weeks into the spring semester of Kindermusik and I can tell that there has been an improvement in Isabel’s behavior. She is beginning to warm up to the class, her new teacher and the idea of being there with her daddy instead of her mommy.
I am still getting used to the idea of being the only male parent in the class, but Isabel’s teacher said that I am loosening up, too (referring to the singing and dancing parts). I also actually spoke more than one or two words to a couple of the moms yesterday–not conversations by any means, but chit-chat nonetheless.
Aidan had a homework project to make a percussion instrument. Pamela found instructions on FamilyFun.com for building an African shekere out of a milk jug. I painted decorations on it using paint pens. Aidan’s grandmother, Lois, strung all the beads to go around it. Miss Janice, Aidan’s teacher, made a huge deal about it. She said something to the effect of, “I can always count on something creative from the Kennedy household.” I was slightly embarrassed, especially since one child showed up with a rubber band wrapped around a book.

that’s really cool! I bet it is amusing to watch Isabel during class.
Are you sure you mean Isabel?
I think it’s cool you’re the only dad there. hooray for involved dads. of course I’m usually more comfortable in a group of women for some reason. maybe b/c they’re typically more relational?
and cool instrument. back when I was under the false impression I could do woodworking and such, I got a cool book about making simple instruments. you’re welcome to borrow it if you’re interested.
and I’d like to ask you about kindermusic sometime, but this is getting too long already.
