We decided not to string lights along the roof line this year and opted for more of a minimalist look. I hung wreaths like last year, but instead of lights on the outside I put a candle in each window (incl. the attic dormer). To light the front door we strung a lit garland around the frame. Pamela inserted holly berries in it to give it some oomph. With garland also around the mailbox,
I think our house’s exterior has both day and night holiday appeal without saying, “Hey, look at me!” The part I like the best about it is the work. Not only is it easier, but it is a lot safer hanging a couple wreaths from a ladder than it is trying to secure a light string to a gutter–stretch too far and forget about it. Next year I am thinking about keeping the candles and garland, but doing something different with the wreaths.
