Things That Grow Back

I gave Aidan a haircut tonight. His hair is just like mine in that once it gets past a certain length it gets these wavy curls. Pam thinks they are cute, but after a while even she agrees that some of it has to come off. The worst time is right after a bath. Do you remember those days when your parents were vigorously drying your hair with a towel? It hurts just to think about it.

The haircut went fairly well; way better than before, actually. I had a children’s size haircutting cape this time. It kept the clippings from falling down Aidan’s back, which in turn lowered the squirm factor. However, he still ended up with hair in his mouth after burying his face in his chest. He said he did it because the clippers tickled him.

Aidan's 10.26.05 haircutI think that a fresh haircut makes Aidan look older. Something else that you might notice in the photo (click to enlarge) is the wart on the tip of his nose. That has come and gone several times over the last year, but now it has grown back to its largest size yet. His pediatrician initially recommended doing nothing, as the chances of a removed wart growing back at his age were high.

Aidan likes his wart, which we suppose is good. It does not bother him and he is not self conscious about it. However, that may not last for much longer. Kids at Mother’s Day Out are starting to ask about it. And the other day an old woman at a restaurant told Aidan that he had food on his nose. We have made an appointment with a dermatologist, but cannot get in to see him until mid-November.

I tried to wipe it off one of the last times ya’ll were in Biloxi.

Aidan was quick to point out that it was a wart. I was like, “Oh, sorry.”

Hah! I remember that. If you try to touch it he gets way defensive, like, “Don’t touch my wart!” He is afraid that we’ll try to rip it off, which has happened accidentally several times. Then it bleeds, scabs over, heals, lies dormant for a while and finally grows back worse than before.
